Wakoopa’s improved Profile page, Usage graph and more…

It’s probably a little-known fact that I’m a software junkie and I also like trying out new stuff in the web. Before, I had to rely solely on blogs and tech sites to satisfy my cravings but all that changed after I found out about Wakoopa. It’s basically a tracker for the softwares and web apps you use. You get stats based on data collected by the tracker you install on your computer. Windows, Mac and Linux are all supported.

Today, Wakoopa has made several updates to user pages and more. Read the announcement here.

Let me give you a rundown of the changes I noticed and my thoughts on them.

Improved Profile Sidebar – Finally! It’s about time for our profiles to start looking more personal. The new Awards portion should prove useful to reputation addicts. :D

New Favorites Section – The “recently used apps” ticker has been replaced by a Favorites section. I didn’t really dream about having this feature but I can see how this helps make the profile appear more personalized. I tried adding several favorites wondering if it’s gonna scroll just like the old ticker but it didn’t. Don’t know yet if it has any limits though.

New Usage Graph – The pie graph for showing usage stats had also been replaced by a bar graph. I’m kind of split on this one. This new graph is cool for showing data over the course of a week. But it’s missing options to filter data yesterday or last month. The old pie graph at least had that and in my opinion, looks less complex and was easier to interpret. I would love to see the bar graph improved with an option to select the graph of my choice.

Change Username – I couldn’t believe it when I saw this in my settings page. I tried using it and it does work. Your URL and everything changes with it. But don’t forget to update the account settings in your tracker software if you do change usernames! Some form of security should have been in place for this action though. Like maybe ask for your account password?

Manage Alerts – I like this one. The Wakoopa tracker tray icon would sometimes change to notify you of alerts. Sometimes it could get annoying so it’s nice to finally be able to customize this.

Updated Contacts Page – Sort of similar to Twitter, contacts are now divided into these 2 groups. However, it would be great if there was also an additional group for mutual contacts.

old wakoopa tickerOverall, I like the changes the Wakoopa team made. But they have to bring back the option to see more real-time stats like they had before with the old ticker (shown on the right). That capability has unfortunately been removed with this recent update. I don’t see any place there now where I could see the apps a Wakoopian is using right at this moment or just a couple of hours ago.

I also hope they work on tracking Firefox add-ons soon seeing as there’s already enough requests for it. I want this to significantly lower my usage time of the main Firefox app. Just kidding. :P

If you’re not yet on Wakoopa but love trying new software and have a fetish for stats, well seriously you need to sign up like right… now! ^_^
