The Lightning Thief – Teaser Trailer!

The teaser trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief premiered last week with the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. This is another movie adaptation of a best-selling novel. There are 5 books in this series and you can check out my review of the first book here.

I have two wishes for this movie:

One: I hope it’s a good movie AND a good adaptation of the book at the same time.
Two: I hope this won’t turn out like The Golden Compass which underperformed in the box office which dashed all hopes of getting the sequels made into films.

olympus Olympus – house of the Olympians (Greek gods)
Olympus looks wicked cool here and is just like I imagined.

empire state building
The Empire State Building
And I assume those lights can’t be seen by normal humans?

percy jackson
Percy Jackson – I just hope this kid’s good.
They are casting older actors here when they should be like 12 years old only.

the trioBrandon T. Jackson as Grover Underwood, Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson
and Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth Chase

It’s a really good book so I am confident this will do good in the box office. As long as the trio here has good on-screen chemistry just like actors Dan, Emma and Rupert have in the Harry Potter films, then they don’t have anything to worry about.

Pierce Brosnan and Uma Thurman are some of the other actors in the cast. The director is Chris Columbus who also directed the first two Harry Potter films. I don’t think he’s the best director but he did well in introducing the wizarding world to us on the silver screen so I think he’s okay here.

The movie is set to be released in theaters on February 12, 2010 in America.

  1. yeah, annabeth’s hair is a problem but it’s a minor one, in my opinion. the major problem is her age.
    23???????????????????????????????????????????????
if they are going to make movies on the rest of the series, they better hurry up. She won’t be young forever, Jeez.

    • Why was Percy driving hes spostota be 12!!! Same with Annabeth she looks 19!!! And a magor problem was that Luke didnt steel the Lightning Bolt it was Ares! Luke programed the flying shoes to drag Percy but draged Grover! And Percy was sopposed to go 2 Olympys ALONE in an AIR PLAIN. His Mom was sopposta stay in THE UNDERWORLD NOT Grover :!:

      • They did change a lot of stuff but that’s to be expected because this is just an adaptation. I’m sure the moviemakers took the liberty of making these changes with the next movies in mind. Expect more changes in the next movie. :D

  5. Thanks merenwen for the feedback. It’s really wrong visually with Annabeth’s hair like that but I just hope the actress makes up for it with good acting.

Movie’s only about 5 months away now!

  6. Okay, I can see how you guys can think about it like that now. But forgive me, even without the clouds I just couldn’t believe that being like Hogwarts. I never imagined Harry’s school with columns resembling Greek architecture. *sweatdrop*

  7. I COMPLETELY agree with Nicole. Annabeth NEEDS to have blonde hair or the movie will just be wrong.

  11. Haha! You’re right. I didn’t think how this would look to those who haven’t read the book yet. Must be weird to you… It’s just a boy going up in an elevator and ending up in some mountain… on top of a building?! :D

    Patrick on August 21st, 2009 at 3:25 am #
  12. hmmmm the trailer doesn’t say that much. might as well read your book review :)

  13. I haven’t really browsed yet any discussion forums about this movie but I hope it won’t be as bad as many fans seem to be thinking. I think Shyamalan’s Last Airbender adaptation has a bigger chance of being horrible than this adaptation.

  14. WTH?! I agree completely with Nicole…I was looking online (as im doing now) and one of the discussions were about Annabeth not being blonde or have curly hair. Some people said “Well maybe they casted her because she’s a great actress!” Well really? Honestly if she was a great actress for this role and she was really into her character then she would have no freakin’ problem dying her hair. Or at least wearing a freakin’ wig?

I’m not to happy about Chris Columbus because of what he said about casting younger actors.

My bet is this movie will suck.

  15. Haha! I didn’t even notice Annabeth’s hair. Don’t you think you’re being too critical? :) Their hair and age is the least of my worries. What I’m more worried about is the script and directing of this film. I just want this to be a well-directed and well-produced movie.

I still don’t understand how some fans think that doesn’t look like Olympus though. Even before reading Percy Jackson, I already had an image of Olympus in my mind and this looks fine to me.

  16. THE ANNABETH IN THE MOVIE HAS BROWN HAIR! WHEN IN THE BOOK SHE HAS BLONDE THIS MAKES ME SO MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!wat do u think? i also think the ppl in the movie are too old and Olympus looks not like Olympus in the book!

    nicole on August 10th, 2009 at 2:11 am #
  17. Oh I see. Hogwarts in the first movie with the lake. But I didn’t really think of that because of the clouds everywhere on the picture. :D

I can’t wait too! I’m still on book 2 and it’s going really good.

    Patrick on August 7th, 2009 at 4:55 pm #
  18. well yeah..
It does kinda look a little like Hogwarts, the part when the first years arrive by boats..
    hehehe..
but thats just one picture,I cant wait to see the movie!
    Yayy!

  19. Hogwarts? I don’t know… It just looks Greek to me which is how I imagined Olympus. :)

I’m starting to get worried that Chris Columbus is directing this. He hasn’t directed any good films lately. :(

    Patrick on July 26th, 2009 at 8:43 pm #
  20. Olympus looks like Hogwarts lol, but that didn’t come as a surprise, both films are directed by Chris Columbus
