In just a few hours, Filipinos all over the country will be waking up to attend this year’s first “Misa de Gallo” or “Simbang Gabi”. I’ve always loved this yuletide tradition and of course this year will be no different because I will surely be attending all 9 dawn Masses.

Do you know what was the first Christmas carol broadcasted on radio?
To mark this special day, I have decided to share 9 amazing versions of a classic Christmas carol. The music speaks for itself so without further ado, here are (in my opinion) the 9 best versions of “O Holy Night”, in no particular order.
David Phelps – O Holy Night
I believe this is the best pop version of this song by a male. (Well, tied with Josh Groban’s version.) I get chills down my spine every time I hear the last few seconds of this rendition. The video below is the live version but I personally prefer the album version. Song begins at 1:20 of the video.
Celine Dion – O Holy Night
Celine has that angelic voice that really fits this song and the outcome is just so… heavenly.
Josh Groban – O Holy Night
You just can’t help but love this guy’s voice. He does this song really well especially the “Noel” part. I also recommend you hear his very unique rendition of “Little Drummer Boy” which has an amazing arrangement!
Celtic Woman – O Holy Night
These ladies have such lovely voices it’s not even funny.
Charice – O Holy Night
I’m not really a big fan of hers but I can’t deny she has an amazing voice and her own version of this is just great! Pinoy represent!
Mariah Carey – O Holy Night
Probably the most famous pop rendition of this song and rightfully so because Mariah Carey really did a great job on this. The following video uses the album version for the audio. I can’t access the proper video on YouTube because of copyright restrictions. <_<
Michael Crawford – O Holy Night
This is actually not the David Foster Christmas album version but the one from Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve” music video. The only video of it I could find online is this and I can’t embed it here. The children’s choir part is so beautiful you should really, really see it!
Kelly Clarkson – O Holy Night
This one’s different from the others here because it’s an a capella. And even though there’s no music, Kelly’s voice really shines here.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) – O Holy Night
This one’s actually a medley of O Come All Ye Faithful and O Holy Night. And it’s actually instrumental only but it’s so great I can’t bear not to include this here. The following video is not official. I thought it was just cool with the Christmas lights and all.
TSO’s known for their rock-inspired Christmas songs. They even Christmas-fied Pachelbel’s Canon in D with a children’s choir! I first heard about this band through Fr. Jboy.
Maligayang Pasko sa ating lahat!
