AVATAR (3D) on SM IMAX theaters!

avatar-experience-imax-3d

Update: You can now read my comprehensive review of AVATAR comparing Dolby Digital 3D cinemas and IMAX 3D theaters.

The most highly-anticipated film of the year premieres this December 17 at SM’s IMAX 3D theaters. If you are still largely unaware of this epic film, you might want to read my previous posts first:

Preview of James Cameron’s “Avatar” at SM IMAX 3D
I attended an exclusive preview (dubbed “AVATAR day”) at SM North Edsa IMAX theater last August and this is my review of the sneak peek.

James Cameron’s “AVATAR” teaser trailer is here!
The first trailer of this film and some high quality screenshots taken thru Apple’s HD trailers site.

Or simply watch the extended theatrical trailer in HD:

AVATAR at SM North Edsa and Mall of Asia IMAX Theater

AVATAR is a full 3D movie. Ticket price is 400.00 pesos. Unfortunately, SM doesn’t have a SureSeats counterpart for reservations. Go to the IMAX booths to purchase and claim your tickets in advance.

Here’s the screening schedule for the first few days of AVATAR at SM North Edsa IMAX theater: 12:30 PM / 3:50 PM / 7:10 PM / 10:30 PM.
Note: Schedule is subject to change without prior notice. :D

UPDATE: See SM Cinemas Official site for the updated IMAX schedules of Mall of Asia (MOA) and SM North Edsa.

The schedule in SM Mall of Asia IMAX shouldn’t be too different. Anyway, I don’t think they’d be able to fit 5 screenings in one day since the movie’s nearly 3 hours!

Oh, and if this is your first time watching at IMAX, my SM North Edsa IMAX “early” review might be of interest to you.

And why am I just promoting the IMAX screenings of this film? Simple. This movie, with its groundbreaking cinematic technology, has to be viewed and experienced in IMAX 3D and nowhere else! ;)

At here it is, hold your breaths, dahil…

And also, as of the REMAINING SHOWS today -Sunday, Jan 31 2010:

      • Thanks for the info Rachel.

February 9? That’s next week! They should seriously consider extending this till the end of February. :D

  3. i call over the phone and ask if reservation is still available in IMAX sm north.. i plan to watch it after new year.. is it possible to purchase the ticket and watch the movie on the same day?? tnx

    • It is possible but don’t count on getting good seats. Best thing you can do is buy your tickets a day before so you can get decent seats. This is a full 3D movie and it wouldn’t be a great thing to watch if you’re seated in let’s say the front rows. You’ll definitely won’t get your money’s worth there.

We actually just bought 3 more tickets for SM North IMAX a couple of days ago for a screening today. If you’re getting more than just one seat, it’s almost impossible to buy the tickets and watch the movie the same day so just take my advice of getting the tickets in advance.

  4. nxt yr??,what the exact date pls?.. :

    yuna on December 25th, 2009 at 4:35 pm #
    • MMFF runs from December 25 till the first week of January. I don’t know the exact date but another movie – Sherlock Holmes will premiere on January 8 which is a Friday. So we can expect the AVATAR screenings to resume any day that week.

  5. can i reserve tickets online? XD because i’ll be coming from faraway haha and where can i find a website. really thanks for the help :) you’re blog is cool.i wonder how you can be so persevered in making blogs like these. great job because it’s really handy and the topics are practical. keep it up.

    • Thanks for the kind words. :D

I don’t think they allow reservations anymore over the phone. I can’t really be sure right now since their phonelines are always busy! And sadly, SM doesn’t have a website like Ayala’s SureSeats. And even if you were able to reserve seats 3 days before the screening, you’d still have to go there personally just to pay and claim your tickets a day before. Sorry. :(

  6. until what date showing po ang avatar? :?:

    galatheya on December 22nd, 2009 at 2:33 pm #
    • They’ll postpone the screenings in regular theaters to make way for MMFF. But the AVATAR screenings at the two IMAX theaters will continue until next year. :D

      Patrick on December 22nd, 2009 at 3:03 pm #
      • That’s good to know but will they show it until February 2010? I want to know the schedule for the last day of showing..thanks!

        Zane on January 7th, 2010 at 3:36 am #
      • @Zane: The next IMAX movie is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs which will premiere on January 27. But judging on how well Avatar is doing, we can expect its run to extend even until February or even March. The IMAX screening times will most likely be split between Avatar and Cloudy.

        Patrick on January 7th, 2010 at 12:39 pm #
      • Thanks so much! I thought I was too late..hope they will extend until February. :)
