More Percy Jackson “The Lightning Thief” Movie Posters!

percy annabeth grover trioHere’s another batch of movie posters for Percy Jackson & The Olympians : The Lightning Thief. Wait, didn’t I promise myself before never to write out that stupidly long title again? <_<

Anyhow, this time around we finally have posters for the other characters too. Still no Luke poster though. What’s wrong with the marketing people of this movie? Luke is a major character! The actor who’s gonna play him will even be joining the trio for the press tour in the States!

And the reason the word “More” is in the title are my previous Lightning Thief articles:

Percy Jackson : The Lightning Thief – New Character Posters!

percy - the lightning thief

Percy Jackson – I like the bluish hues but I wish they zoomed it in a bit. You can’t hardly see or notice who’s in here. Besides, Percy would never do this. Oh wait, he did. But that’s still in book #3. :D

Also, something’s terribly wrong in the background there. Look closely. The 3D perspective is all messed up on those buildings!

grover - the lightning thief

Grover Underwood – Can’t we have the characters be seen in some other place too? Las Vegas, maybe? Camp Half-Blood? The New York City skyline is so overused already in Hollywood.

annabeth - the lightning thief

Annabeth Chase – Okay, this one seriously reminded me of a Michael Jackson video. Can you guess which one? Haha! I can just picture MJ dancing there right around Annabeth. I’m sorry, I just can’t seem to take Annabeth seriously here without her blond hair.

zeus hera - the lightning thief

Zeus and Hera – Zeus definitely doesn’t look like my Zeus! It’s like they just took an actor from the Gladiator movie. He doesn’t look even godly. My god!

And Hera? Why does she even have a character poster? I don’t remember her playing a big role on this book. No, wait, was she even in Lightning Thief? Could someone jog my memory here?

poseidon - the lightning thief

No text at all in this one but surely you recognize who this is, no? The Trident? It’s Percy’s father, Poseidon!

The only problem I can probably say for this is that he looks uncannily similar to the actor they chose to play Zeus! Poseidon’s supposed to be a cool, beach-guy dad. They should have made him more modern. This isn’t impossible since they turned Hades into a rock star!

athena - the lightning thief

Nope. That’s not Celine Dion doing a new video for A New Day Has Come. :P

It’s Athena, Annabeth’s mother. And again, why the hell does she have a poster and not Luke!

persephone - the lightning thief

I’ve got a confession to make. While I was downloading these pictures and assigning proper filenames to them, when I got to this one I started typing jordin spar… Haha! Okay, that was stupid.

So who is this really? Well I can’t blame you if you can’t recognize her because she doesn’t really look fit for the part. Persephone! No, not a new cellphone model. It’s the queen of the underworld! Hades’ concubine!

Hades also has a new character teaser of which I have nothing witty to say. Thank you.

percy annabeth grover - the lightning thief (wave poster)

Saving the best for last… I luuurvve thisssss!

I’ve seen this several times before without Annabeth and Grover but it’s only now in this version where I noticed that Percy looks like he’s channeling Moses here. Hehe!

I still haven’t seen what posters the cinemas use here in Manila for promotion but I sure hope it’s either this or the one where Percy is at sea wielding a lightning bolt. All the other posters could only serve as bad publicity. :P

Alright that’s enough movie posters for The Lightning Thief. Again, movie’s showing in theaters February 12, 2010. (Not 2009! Need to proofread more!)

After writing 4 blog posts about this movie, this better not be crap or I’ll be so pissed off. Please Zeus, no.

  4. That poster is incorrect. Uma Thurman is Medusa not Hera but I am sure most people know that.
I am a little miffed that they are portraying the Gods in period outfits when they weren’t written that way in the book but I guess I will have to reserve judgement until I have seen the movie.

    Casey on February 10th, 2010 at 1:24 pm #
    • Ooh.. it is Medusa indeed! I didn’t notice that. Thanks for pointing it out.

And their outfits, yeah that’s what I’m really hating right now about these posters. I hope they dress them up in the movie according to what these characters wore in the books.

  5. that poster that shows ‘hera’? uhm , she looks a bit too much like uma thurman, and the turban on her head just might be hiding some snakes. LOL

jinsung lee on February 4th, 2010 at 11:08 pm #
    • Haha! That’s what I thought too. They should have casted a different actress. Still, I don’t get why Hera is in this movie. :|

  6. Persephone isn’t even mentioned in the book ’till book… 4? Even Hera!! Ugh. They are so changing the events. I think the movie’s not gonna turn out as good as the people thinks.X(

    • Well you’re not alone with those worries. I’m sure all fans fear the worst but of course, we have to try to be optimistic about this movie. If this turns out bad, we’ll probably not even get the other books made into movies. :(

  7. I’ve seen the trailers for the movie, it looks very good. I can’t wait to see the movie. And I noticed they changed a lot of stuff compared to the book (and from the posters I can see that they added some characters as well). To me it looks like the movie is more mature compared to the book, which has a very light and almost humorous tone to it, considering it being on Percy’s POV.

    aryehgizbar on January 26th, 2010 at 10:48 pm #
    • Yeah, I think the movie does give a more mature look. But maybe it’s just because the young actors aren’t really as young as they should be like in the book?
In all honestly though, I prefer the humor in the books. However, they often don’t transfer well on the big screen so screenwriters usually have to create new gags for the movie.

I can barely remember the events in the book since I read it about 4 months ago so I can’t comment really right now on the book-movie differences. If they did change a lot then watching this movie would, to me, probably feel like seeing an alternate story of the first book.

      Patrick on January 26th, 2010 at 11:10 pm #
    • They changed a lot of stuffs. For one, the Percy Jackson in the book is 12 years old. In the movie, he’s kind of 16. It would ruin the story, ’cause there’s a prophecy that tells about him going 16 “saving the world”. You’ll understand what I’m trying to say if you read the book.

I appreciate you liking the movie though.(:

      mathelle.:) on January 30th, 2010 at 4:55 pm #
      • I’ve read the book, thank you. About the prophecy, they could just say it’s gonna happen when he’s 21 or something.
