Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson
Son of Poseidon – Yeah, he is the son of the god of the seas. It isn’t really a spoiler anymore now that the posters and trailers themselves are telling this. The only mystery is why he’s holding a lightning bolt. Because he’s… ?
He looks perfect for the role (I don’t mind the age) but I still pray to the gods of Olympus that this kid is really a good actor. I certainly don’t want another Daniel Radcliffe like the one in the first Potter movies.
Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth Chase
Daughter of Athena – No blonde Annabeth for us book fans. *sadface* Hope she at least does the character justice with her acting. The marketing peeps seem to be trying to make Annabeth look like a hot chick here. Well, other than Percy, I think no one else in the books ever looked at her that way.
Brandon T. Jackson as Grover Underwood
The Protector – My disappointment with Annabeth’s hair is dwarfed by my outrage with Grover’s skin color here! Now don’t think I’m racist because I’m not a white myself but this was just a bad casting decision. Uhm.. skin-color-wise. I don’t care if he’s the best actor in the world but the Grover here is just gonna ruin my own image of Grover in the books which is of course the correct one. And I love Grover’s character! Well, second to Percy. (Never liked Annabeth… Horrible name.)
Pierce Brosnan as Chiron
Guide Warrior? Wouldn’t centaur have been more appropriate? The Centaur! Haha!
Okay, this one looks okay. I didn’t even notice it was Pierce Brosnan! Anyhow, I know he’ll fit the character. Moving on…
Uma Thurman as Medusa
Fatal Beauty – Bad Photoshop job on those snakes! I never expected a big movie like this to show something amateurish most especially in the posters!
I didn’t imagine Medusa looking anywhere close to Uma Thurman but that’s the least of my worries now. I’m more concerned with the young actors.
Steve Coogan as Hades
The Exterminator?! Seriously? That’s a lousy and cheesy description to use for a movie like this, much less to Hades’ character! I could think of several other cooler names for him like… God of the Underworld! Well, that’s obvious but it certainly sounds better than The Exterminator. <_<
And I already read Coogan’s interview about his role here being like a rock star. Another… What the eff?! Okay, well I guess the gods also change with the times. But I’m just finding it hard to take this movie seriously now with all these wackiness.
Percy Jackson & The Olympians : The Lightning Thief premieres in theaters on February 12, 2010. I’ll definitely watch this opening day but I’ll make sure to enter the cinema with the most open mind possible. Luckily, this won’t be very difficult for me to do thanks to my abysmal memory. Most likely, I wouldn’t even remember the original scenes in the book to compare with.
