Creative Zen Review
Even though the Zen X-Fi is out now, I’m still writing this review since I don’t really plan on buying the new Zen. The WiFi features and the new look are simply not enough to make me buy a new player although I am really, really curious how the X-Fi technology can make music sound better in a PMP. But I think I’d rather wait for the 3rd-generation Zen than spend money on a rehashed Zen.
I bought my ZEN 16 GB last March (2008) in Electroworld at the SM North Cyberzone branch. I paid in cash so I got a discount in addition to the following freebies: wire management silicon case, leather case and wall charger. These items are usually sold separately in other stores but I got the whole package for just 10,000 pesos. I consider myself lucky for finding this great deal. There’s an option to extend the warranty but I didn’t get it because I’m sure better players will be available by next year.
I couldn’t wait for the 32 GB model to arrive in the Philippines and even if it was available, it still wouldn’t be enough to hold my entire music library. As of this writing, the 32 GB model is still not sold here (AFAIK) and it’s been almost 5 months already since I bought mine. Good thing I didn’t decide to wait.
Instead of discussing the main features which many other reviews have already gone into detail, I’m just going to list the “little” complaints I have on this little player. Let me warn you though that many of the things listed may appear to you as just plain nitpicking but I take stuff like this seriously that’s why I came up with this kind of list.
And for the record, let me also say that I never regretted buying the ZEN. It will be so much better though if the following “issues” are addressed if not by a new firmware then probably on their next players.
Explore Davao - Part 6 : Morning at Paradise Island
This is a continuation of the previous part and this is where I wake up in the beach to do some crazy stuff.
(I’m posting this using Windows Live Writer. Hope this looks right when published.)

Explore Davao - Part 5 : Paradise Island
This is the first part of our trip to Samal Island in Davao. Not much to see except this shows the night when we arrived there.
Explore Davao - Part 5 (18 photos)
You’ll see more in the next part where I play in the beach for the first time. I said play because I don’t know how to swim!
Explore Davao - Part 4 : Philippine Eagle
We went to this Philippine Eagle Center in Davao. I saw here the famous Philippine eagle named Pag-asa. We saw several birds and monkeys there too. I even dared myself to carry a snake around my neck!
Explore Davao - Part 4 (30 photos)
Next part will show our trip to Paradise Island resort in the island of Samal. But I think I’ll have to split that trip into two parts because we took tons of pictures there.
My Most Played Songs: June 2008
This is a bit late but better late than never! I’ll make seperate lists this time around. Again, songs in bold were placed on repeat mode either on my Zen player or foobar. Meaning… I got addicted to them.
Let me start with Christian songs. Well, specifically Catholic music because I don’t know if other Christian sects listen to them too. I just discovered the Bukas Palad Music Ministry. It all started when I was in Davao and I missed attending Holy Mass for several days. I sorely missed hearing church songs so I bought their “Tinapay ng Buhay” album. I listened to it every single day. Instead of listing all the tracks, I’ll just write down my fave songs from the album. I plan to write someday a post here just about their music.
- Bukas Palad - Glory To God
- Bukas Palad - Humayo’t Ihayag (New Version)
- Bukas Palad - The Face Of God
Going now to remixes, these are the mixes which were not in my last month’s most played list.
- DJ Quicksilver - Bellissima (Original 12″ Cut)
- DJ Quicksilver - Bellissima (Radio / Video Mix)
- Blake Lewis - How Many Words (Dave Aude Mixshow)
- Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls (Orangefuzzz Cosmetic Club Mix)
- Fatboy Slim - The Rockafella Skank
- Bryan Adams - Summer Of ‘69 (White Label Mix)
- Debbie Gibson - Electric Youth (Ultimix)
This next one was not really my fave MLTR song but after giving it a few listens I liked it so much that I played it on repeat for days!
- Michael Learns To Rock - I’m Gonna Come Back
And the obligatory artist in my list…
- Britney Spears - Radar
- Britney Spears - Cinderella
- Britney Spears - What It’s Like To Be Me
I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of BTI’s remixes! Before, I was skeptical of having remixes for the song. I was thinking no remix would sound better than the original version. I’m glad I was wrong.
- Britney Spears - Break The Ice (Jason Nevins Extended Mix)
- Britney Spears - Break The Ice (Soul Seekerz Club Mix)
- Britney Spears - Break The Ice (Soul Seekerz Dirty Mix)
- Britney Spears - Break The Ice (Tracy Young Mixshow)
And the following are still on this month’s list. I’m sorry if I have the same songs again but I can’t avoid it since my entire music collection is on an external hard drive which I rarely use. Once I got a new laptop, I should be able to have more variety in this list.
- David Cook - Always Be My Baby (RTZ Club Mixshow)
- Chris Brown - With You (Tracy Young Club Mix)
- Janet Jackson - Feedback (Jody den Broeder Club Mix)
- Enrique Iglesias - Escape (JJ Club Mix)
- Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean - Hips Don’t Lie (Ultimix Pt. 2)
I’ve finally listened to LP’s new album and I liked it. It’s not as good as their previous ones but I still have some fave cuts there.
- Linkin Park - Given Up
- Linkin Park - Bleed It Out
- Linkin Park - Shadow Of The Day
- Linkin Park - Hands Held High
Lastly… classical music. I have a lot of them but it’s only last month when I really had the time to listen. They really help you know when I want to concentrate while working.
- Vivaldi - The Four Seasons - Spring
- Elgar - Pomp and Circumstance - March No. 1
- Liszt - Hungarian Rhapsody No.2
- Ravel - Bolero
- Pachelbel - Canon in D
So that’s it! I mentioned last month that foobar will only be a temporary player but after discovering more about it I think I’ll stick with it. It’s the best no non-sense player out there! If you like a customized media player, you should definitely try foobar.
