All parents and teachers should definitely see this really, really cute inspiring video. It’s especially relevant today when majority of the youth just spend most of their “growing up life” playing computer games and texting on their phones with hardly any time set aside for reading.

Public Speaking and Personality Development – Book Review
I waited a few weeks before blogging about my talk at UST. Just didn’t feel right writing about it when the dust hadn’t even settled yet.
If it interests you, my list of 9 ways to screw up a speech is posted over at my personal blog.
So I bought a book just to prepare for this. Why? Well, I’m a naturally shy, solitary, anti-social troglodyte who was asked to give a speech to a group of students for a whole hour! Total strangers and I actually agreed to do it! Would you believe it? And I have a fear of facing new people. Plus, this was my first time doing anything remotely like public speaking! What can poor me do?
Not having any mentor or teacher to guide me, I resolved to seek the help from an old friend: the book.

Public Speaking and Personality Development
by Wilma Cruz-Tapalla and Valerie Cruz Tapalla
I was initially gunning for foreign titles but thankfully I found this one which is really good as it tackles every possible aspect of being a public speaker. Continue reading “Public Speaking and Personality Development – Book Review”
The Heroes of Olympus, Book One: The Lost Hero
The Heroes of Olympus: The Lost Hero is finally available here in the Philippines. This is Rick Riordan’s third young adult fantasy series so following in the tradition of the first two, it’s also got a really, really long title. So from here on, the first book will just be referred to as “The Lost Hero”.
“The Lost Hero” is a follow-up to Riordan’s widely successful “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series. It’s basically another Camp Half-Blood story but with a new batch of demigods. Characters from the Percy Jackson series do make an appearance here but from what I’ve read, you don’t need to have read Percy’s story first to enjoy this.
And again, this is a book series. We don’t know yet how many books it will have but the second book, “The Son of Neptune”, will be released in the fall of 2011. That means around October again.
You can read the first two chapters of “The Lost Hero” at the book’s official website.

Book Acquisitions Mega Update!
You might think it’s sad that my latest post is yet another update on books I’ve acquired but no, this is not your ordinary books update. In my last update, I’ve only bought 11 books. But since that time, I’m happy to report that I bought a total of 46 books! So 2010 is turning out to be my wallet’s most-hated year.
Most of the books were impulse purchases at the National Bookstore Cut-Price Sale this year. So let’s begin with three books I bought from National Bookstore.
*Note: If I got it discounted, the original price will be indicated in parentheses. I keep all the receipts! I’m OC like that.
I might have been late on the Capitol scene but I prefer it this way. I don’t think I could have endured the year-long wait for “Mockingjay” – P530 (P795), which I loved by the way. There’s so much hate out there it’s really funny.
Anyway, I’ll probably never forget the fact that I could have gotten The Hunger Games for free last year. I guess my only consolation now is that I got all 3 books at a discounted price. Got both “The Hunger Games” and “Catching Fire” for P607 (P795) each.
Next up is the last book of the Percy Jackson series.
